Session 3

Well we were suppose to be back in the literacy lab tonight but the rooms were not decent enough to conduct a session in, so class was once again held in room 119. Maybe next week we will be back in the lab.

Tonights session consisted of more about "Clifford the Big Red Dog"! More reading, identifying basic sight words and writing. Faye shared with me some activities that she has for her student. I am eager to try them with J.T. I think he will enjoy them.

Quote: If a seed of lettuce will not grow, we do not blame the lettuce. Instead the fault lies with us for not having nourished the seed properly. Frank OutLaw

Just like what the quote says, we don't blame the students for our faults in not enriching our students lives. If we nourish them with great teaching, we will see the fruits of our labor in the end.

Happy Valentine's Day!

  1. It was a bit frustrating with the change of classrooms but there was not way we could have stayed at the lab. Everything was dusty and it just wasn't appealing. Anyway, we got through our sessions okay and I am sure that next week we can be back to "normal." Yolie, we need to spend some time going over some of our materials. I know that there are resources you are using that might be useful in my sessions and vice versa. Sorry Alan had to miss class but it couldn't be helped. Have a Happy Valentine's day with your family.

  3. It is my hope that the literacy lab will be ready by next week. Your safety is more important. Additional clean up and sanitation must be conducted to provide an optimum learning environment. Nevertheless, we were able to transition back to 119 and conduct sessions as planned.

Yolie, JT is undoubtedly motivated by Clifford, so I encourage you to continue to allow him to read the Clifford stories. This will further allow him to read with meaning and pleasure.

It's wonderful that you both want to share resources/activities. I encourage you to do so, as well as to tap on your schema on the various literacy strategies you've learned throughout the course of your L & L Program. Don't forget that there are also children's books/supplies available for you in the literacy lab. Keep up the collaboration, and I wish you and your child the best this semester!

    Best regards,
    Dr. Rivera
